Savannah River Remediation Provides Update to CNTA, Interns Provide Work Perspective

Aiken, S.C. - Savannah River Remediation (SRR) employees and summer interns attended the Citizens for Nuclear Technology Awareness (CNTA) “Up and Atom” breakfast on July 26 in Aiken, S.C.

SRR President and Project Manager Tom Foster presented a liquid waste operations update and congratulated employees on recently achieved milestones, such as the filling of the 4,000th Defense Waste Processing Facility canister. Foster also invited three of SRR’s 42 interns to share some of their experiences from this summer.

Engineering interns A’Jay Jones and Jonathon Townsend, along with Information Technology intern Jennifer Herbert, provided insight into the projects they assisted with onsite, as well as the way in which their internships will enhance their future careers.

CNTA is an Aiken-based charitable educational organization dedicated to providing factual information about nuclear topics and educating the public on nuclear issues.

SRR is the liquid waste contactor at SRS for the U.S. Department of Energy. SRR is composed of a team of companies led by AECOM with partners Bechtel National, CH2M and BWX Technologies. Critical subcontractors for the contract are AREVA, EnergySolutions and URS Professional Solutions.
