AIKEN, S.C. — Savannah River Remediation (SRR) has joined the ranks of Microsoft, CVS Health, Dell and Verizon in the cyber security sphere.
Along with those names, SRR has been recognized as an official 2015 Champion of National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM). That means SRR will be joining a growing global effort among colleges and universities, businesses, government agencies, associations, nonprofit organizations and individuals to effectively promote online safety awareness.
Celebrated every October, National Cyber Security Awareness Month was created as a collaborative effort between government and industry to ensure everyone has the resources needed to stay safer and more secure online.
The SRR Cyber Security team spearheaded the effort to win SRR the recognition as a Champion, said Steve Lape, SRR's Principle Cyber Security Analysis.
"Our Cyber Security Awareness Program works because all the driving factors are there," Lape said. "We have solid support from Management and our Communications team works with us to deliver our messages to employees, particularly in October."
Managerial support and competent employee communications are two of the reasons SRR was recognized as a Champion of NSCAM. Also in support of NCSAM, SRR Cyber Security has been hosting a series of Lunch and Learns: 30-minute seminars used to educate employees on different cyber security topics.
According to Sandra Fairchild, SRR Director of Project Services and Support, the SRR Cyber Security team is blazing a trail in the DOE Complex for online safety.
"The SRR Cyber Security team has put in outstanding efforts to grow our online safety awareness throughout our Company," Fairchild said. "We also believe our employees are taking this cyber security awareness home to their families and personal lives, helping everyone stay safe online."
Coordinated and led by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) and the Department of Homeland Security, NCSAM has grown exponentially since its inception, reaching consumers, small and medium-sized businesses, corporations, educational institutions, and young people across the nation and internationally. This year marks the 12th year of NCSAM.
