Savannah River Remediation Repeats as National Cyber Champions

October 24, 2016

Aiken, S.C. - For the second consecutive year, Savannah River Remediation (SRR) has been named a Champion of National Cyber Security Awareness Month.

This honor is presented each October by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) organization.

The NCSAM Champion program highlights companies that are dedicated to promoting a safer, more secure, and more trusted Internet. Other notable 2016 Champions include AT&T, Cornell University, Johnson & Johnson, and MetLife Inc.

The effort to become a repeat champion was led by the SRR Cyber Security Team. The cyber team works to promote Internet and computer safety though multiple outlets, including weekly messages in employee communications and monthly lunch and learn sessions.

Additionally, the SRR Cyber Security Team promotes Internet safety in the community by speaking at local colleges; Augusta Bsides, a local cyber security conference; and at this year’s Department of Energy Cyber Security Conference.

Sandra Fairchild, SRR Director of Project Services and Support, said SRR’s dedicated role in bringing cyber security awareness to employees and the community demonstrates why SRR has once again been named a cyber champion.

“Cybercrime is a staggering problem in our world,” Fairchild said. “That’s why it’s important for Savannah River Remediation to educate employees with ways to stay safe while using the Internet. Our employees become ambassadors and spread awareness to their families and neighbors.”

SRR is also actively involved with the DHS Industrial Control Systems (ICS) Joint Working Group, DHS Critical Infrastructure, and ICS-Computer Emergency Readiness Team, as well as local organizations such as Information Systems Security Association and Information Systems Audit and Control Association.

National Cyber Security Awareness Month, observed every October, was created as a collaborative effort between government and industry to ensure every American has the resources they need to stay safer and more secure online, according to the National Cyber Security Alliance.

This year marks the 13th year of NCSAM. For more information about National Cyber Security Awareness Month, the NCSAM Champions program, and how to participate in NCSAM activities, visit .
